Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 11, 2026Last updated: September 11, 2026

Temple (“Temple,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a product of Higgins Lab LLC. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use templeguide.co, the Temple web app, and the Temple progressive web app (together, the “Service”).

This policy is written for Temple specifically. It is not a generic template. By using the Service, you also agree to our Terms of Service.

Contact: Higgins Lab LLC — hello@templeguide.co

1. Who this policy covers

This policy applies to:

  • Visitors to our marketing site and waitlist
  • People who create a Temple account with email and password
  • People who use Temple as a guest during onboarding before creating an account

This policy does not apply to third-party websites or services we link to.

2. What Temple is (and is not)

Temple is a digital wellness and grocery-guidance tool. It helps you filter foods, scan packaged products, build grocery lists, and find recipe alternatives based on goals and preferences you choose.

Temple is not a medical device, healthcare provider, pharmacy, insurer, or HIPAA covered entity. Using Temple does not create a doctor–patient relationship. Information you enter about health goals, allergens, or diet is used to personalize food guidance, not to diagnose, treat, or manage a medical condition.

3. Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account we collect your name, email address, password (stored by our authentication provider in hashed form; we do not see your plaintext password), and account identifiers such as your user ID and account creation time.

If you only join the waitlist, we collect your name, email, and optional phone number.

Health-related and dietary information. Temple collects wellness goals, allergens, dietary preferences, and disliked foods to build your list. This is health-related information. Read our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy for details.

App activity and saved content. Depending on how you use Temple, we may store grocery-list favorites, swaps, and weekly list completions; saved recipes and TempleUp search queries; scanned barcodes, requests for missing products, and reports of incorrect product data; ingredient terms that could not be matched automatically; Temple Tips progress and reminder preferences; interface preferences; feedback you send us; and waitlist or earlier access-request details.

Camera and scanner data. The product scanner uses your device camera on your device to read a barcode. We do not upload camera frames, photos, or video from the scanner to our servers. After a barcode is decoded, we send the barcode number to our servers to look up product nutrition and ingredient data. You can also type a barcode instead of using the camera. Camera permission is controlled by your browser or device.

Device, technical, and analytics data. We automatically collect browser and device type, technical logs needed to operate and secure the Service, authentication cookies and session tokens, and local or session storage on your device for guest onboarding drafts, cached lists, and preferences. We also collect limited product-analytics events for TempleUp (for example, that a meal was submitted or a recipe was viewed or saved). Those events may include the search query you typed.

Guest / pre-account data. If you start onboarding before signing in, goal and dietary choices may be stored temporarily in your browser. When you create an account, we copy those choices into your profile so you do not have to re-enter them.

4. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Create and secure your account
  • Personalize grocery lists, product scans, swaps, and recipes to your goals, allergens, and preferences
  • Look up packaged-food data when you scan or enter a barcode
  • Search recipes when you use TempleUp
  • Remember favorites, lists, and settings
  • Respond to feedback, product requests, and data-quality reports
  • Notify waitlist members when access is available
  • Understand whether TempleUp is working (limited product analytics)
  • Maintain, debug, and protect the Service
  • Comply with law and enforce our Terms

We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

5. How we share information

Service providers (processors). We share information with service providers that run Temple. The providers that receive health-related information are listed in our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.

Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of Temple, our users, or the public.

Business transfers. If Higgins Lab LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy or a successor policy.

We do not sell your information, including health-related preferences.

6. Cookies, local storage, and similar technologies

Temple uses:

  • Authentication cookies and session tokens to keep you signed in
  • Local storage and session storage on your device for guest onboarding, grocery-list state, favorites, scanner camera-grant flags, and similar app preferences
  • Analytics storage (when analytics is enabled) to remember a product-analytics identifier

These are used to operate the Service, not to run third-party advertising. You can clear cookies and site storage in your browser; doing so will sign you out and may reset guest drafts.

7. Retention

We keep account and profile data for as long as your account is active.

If you delete your account in Settings, we:

  • Delete your authentication identity
  • Delete your Temple profile and linked app data (goals, allergens, dietary preferences, dislikes, dietary profile, favorites, swaps, grocery swaps, grocery checkmarks, completions, tips progress, product requests, data reports, TempleUp reports, and similar account-linked records)
  • Delete matching waitlist and earlier access-request rows for that email, when present
  • Clear Temple data stored in your browser on that device

Backups, security logs, and analytics events may persist for a limited period after deletion, then are removed in the ordinary backup and log cycle. We may retain information if required by law or to resolve disputes (for example, a record that an account was deleted).

Waitlist and earlier access-request emails are kept until you are notified and onboarded, you ask us to remove them, or we delete them as part of account deletion.

8. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted transport (HTTPS), access-controlled databases, and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Please use a strong unique password for your Temple account.

9. Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Access and update your name, goals, allergens, preferences, and dislikes in the app
  • Delete your Temple account in Settings → Account
  • Email hello@templeguide.co to request access, correction, or deletion

For health-related information, see our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.

California (CCPA / CPRA). You have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by California law. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information (including health-related goals and allergen information) for purposes other than providing the Service you requested. To exercise rights, email hello@templeguide.co. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

10. Children

Temple is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because Temple collects health-related goal and allergen information, the Service is intended for users 18 years of age or older. If we learn we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it.

11. International users

Temple is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from another country, your information will be processed in the United States, which may have different data-protection laws than your country.

12. Changes

We will post updates on this page and change the “Last updated” date. If we materially change how we use personal information, we will provide additional notice as required (for example in-app or by email).
